Notes:

Friar Jack Wintz wants you to know–the Bible gives us many clues that we will be with our pets in heaven for eternity!

“Our God is a God of overflowing love, goodness, and beauty who is ready to give over everything to those he loves. This goodness is reflected in the whole family of creation. When God says of any creature, whether human or nonhuman, that it is good or very good, it’s not a simple matter of moral goodness. The creature also has an inherent goodness and beauty–a beauty that reflects God, who is beauty itself”

Pet loss is one of the most emotionally draining experiences that a person can endure, partly because you feel like perhaps others think you should just get over it. It’s just a dog (cat, bird, etc.), right? After awhile, when the grief fails to completely subside, you may even start to feel like there’s something wrong with you. This book, though sad to read, connects you to the emotions of other people who have dealt with pet loss. It’s comforting to think that, in some ways, your beloved pet isn’t really gone.

I found this book very intelligent, thoughtful, and helpful following the unexpected death of our beloved dog. The author doesn’t hit you over the head with doctrine or theology. He doesn’t pretend to speak with absolute certainty about things we cannot know for sure. But his reflections on scripture and life experiences suggest ways of looking at the place of animals in creation and in the life that is to come that I found truly reassuring and comforting..
